Remote Interpreting
There are now some technological solutions that allow for Remote Simultaneous Interpreting (RSI) i.e. the interpreters and participants are not in the same location, but they all log in to a web-conferencing software for a virtual event. There are some dedicated could-based Simultaneous Interpretation Delivery Platforms (SIDPs) which have been created specifically for this aim, but they tend to come at a significant cost. Web-conferencing applications like Zoom (others are in the pipeline) have also recently introduced the simultaneous interpretation functionality – While it lacks certain more specific features offered by SIDPs, it can be a much more affordable option that, nonetheless, gets the job done.
